The Roanoke colony was a colony in the New World. First, the English sent people to live there so the colony could be as a base for repairing and resupplying English warships. But then, the colonists found that the seas around the island were too shallow for ships to seek shelter there. Also, the land was not good enough for the colonists and Indians to live there. Later, in 1856, the colonists returned to England.

After that, more colonists came with Sir Walter Raleigh.
